    The Ministry of Agriculture revealed directives to hold accountable transgressors of green areas in the capital, Baghdad, while confirming that it constitutes only 10% at a time when the design plans for the capital included 40% green areas and 60% residential.
    The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad al-Khafaji, told the official agency, "The prime minister has directed to preserve the green areas inside the capital, Baghdad, whether they are gardens or farms."
     
    He added that "Baghdad is exposed to an environmental disaster, especially in the Rusafa area," noting that "there is bulldozing of green areas and using them as housing units, in addition to that there are transgressions and randomness that have reached dangerous indicators of the citizen's health and security."
    The minister pointed out that "maximum measures were recommended to be taken against transgressors," stressing that "there is a directive to governors, heads of administrative units and directors of agriculture to refer any transgressor, whether by water or housing, to the competent courts."
    Al-Khafaji pointed out that "the governorate of Baghdad and the Municipality of the capital are responsible for the violations of green spaces and the failure to implement Law 154, as well as the basic design law for the city of Baghdad to maintain the oxygen level in the capital."
    He explained that "the percentage designated as a green zone in Baghdad is currently 10%, while every residential area is supposed to have a green area," noting that "the basic design of Baghdad specified 40% as green areas and 60% as housing, but this percentage has been overlooked by During construction, housing and bulldozing, the percentage of green areas became 10%.
