Waste burning inside Baghdad neighborhoods introduce parents to the environmental disaster

     BAGHDAD / Saja Hashim

After the return of (Hussein) , with nine years of school I noticed his mother 's red eyes and a cough that did not stop for hours, to tell her after the restless that factor school the day collecting waste and burning them in containers or behind the walls of the school to get rid of them, which made him suffer inflammation of the eye as well as the congestion and the sensitivity of the respiratory system.
And suffer a lot of areas of the capital from the waste spread dramatically and randomly, causing various infectious diseases, and converts it into a hotbed of attracting stray animals. And come the wrong treatment of waste incinerated or buried in unallocated areas pose the greatest danger to the lives of citizens.
Teaching Rasha al- Hilali, a resident of Husseiniya area mentioned in her speech (range) that " the residential area neglected in general suffers a lack of services, either in the schools , we find the small number of service workers or the lack of vehicles to transport waste in the region , so the service worker burning inside the school . " , the follow - up "after several complaints by students and professors also are burning waste transfer after leaving the students and the distance from the school , " noting that "there are no other way to get rid of this waste."
Chair of the Health Committee of the Council of Baghdad Nahida al - Tamimi, said with her (long) that " the issue of the burning of waste in schools , proximity or even within neighborhoods is very dangerous, because it could affect the students especially if they suffer from asthma or allergy ". Arguing that "this phenomenon uncivilized and unhealthy influence Alambeshraly health is not only the students but the residents of the territories because all the schools are located within residential neighborhoods." Calling for "genuine cooperation between municipal departments and the Secretariat of the capital and schools to raise these waste per day and landfilled areas assigned to them."
Tamimi pointed out that "in the event of receipt of any complaint from a particular region or a particular school will follow up the matter and find a solution to ensure the health of children."
For his part, Hakim Abdul Zahra, official spokesman for the Baghdad Municipality, it was "within the municipal boundaries of the city of Baghdad , is the secretion of more than 7 thousand tons per day, and there are major efforts to raise these quantities," adding that "in some areas are not taken to adhere Ptoukitat waste and not to throw it of their positions allocated what leads to their accumulation and spread. "
He said Abdul - Zahra (range) that "Baghdad is composed of 14 municipal districts within the city limits , and where there are nine manufacturing plants are waste collection of shops and areas for up to these stations , which are pressed waste and converts it to places landfill outside areas of Baghdad," following up "no landfills in the areas of health and NAHRAWAN Taji , north of Baghdad. " The spokesman for the secretariat of the capital , that "there are suffering from the lack of financial allocations during the last two years , which impacted negatively on the level of services in the capital." The Municipality of Baghdad announced last April for the formation of an emergency effort to carry out cleaning and upgrading waste from areas within boycotted the municipalities of Karrada and Karkh center after the Lebanese Company ceased its functions under the pretext of not receiving their financial dues.
For its part, attributed to the phenomenon of the parliamentary services committee waste spread in the provinces and cities to the lack of financial allocations and the absence of municipal and service control.
Committee member Mohammed al - Masoudi said the news that the speech " a lack of special lifting waste of financial allocations that do not clog the public needs as well as lack of control and lack of seriousness and dedication to work has led to the spread of this phenomenon extensively , " pointing out that " the financial allocations was one of the development of the regions of the provinces budget and it was cut off due to the current circumstances of austerity. "
He called on local governments to "use modern technology in the recycling of waste through the import of machinery for this matter."
Citizens complain of the spread of waste in many areas , despite the effort to play the Municipality of Baghdad and service departments in the provinces.
