Former Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi is in China to sign the agreement
The Chinese embassy in Baghdad announced today, Wednesday, that its agreement with Iraq will be activated soon, while indicating that some technical issues related to the agreement will be resolved.
"Iraq is communicating with China on how to implement the agreement as soon as possible," said the trade advisor at the Chinese embassy, Zhou Shun, during a hypothetical press conference.
He added, "The Chinese Insurance Corporation, Sino Shore, the Iraqi Ministry of Finance and the Iraq Reconstruction Council have continued to find solutions to some of the technical issues pending in the agreement."
"Infrastructure projects are important for cooperation between the two countries, and Chinese companies are in close contact with Iraq regarding the establishment of projects for schools, electricity, water supply and airports, in addition to power stations," said Shawn.
Last March, the Iraqi Minister of Culture, Hassan Nazim, announced that the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, recommended the implementation of the agreement with China.
The Iraqi-Chinese agreement sparked a great controversy in Iraq, and the protesters were accused of having demonstrated with US support to topple the former government of Adel Abdul Mahdi, which signed the agreement with China.
