"The United States is angry at confronting peaceful Iraqi demonstrators with threats and brutal violence," State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement to "People" (May 28, 2021).

"
He added, "The commission, from the start of the demonstrations until this moment, has been calling for the prevention of the use of excessive violence, and law-keeping forces and the security forces supporting them have been subject to more than (500) training workshops on how to deal with and protect demonstrators, and at a time when it affirms that the demonstrators fully adhere to the standards of peaceful protest." And to stay away from any clashes with the security forces, as it renews its call on all parties to take utmost restraint and preserve the peaceful demonstrations. "
The Commission called on the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to "assume responsibility and take the most serious measures against those who used live bullets and excessive violence, refer them to the judiciary, and release all those detained in connection with the demonstrations."
It called on the demonstrators to "prevent those who want to divert the demonstrations from their peaceful course and to continue their exercise of this right by cooperating with the security forces and preserving public and private property."

On Tuesday, the High Commission for Human Rights called for preparing a draft law and sending it to Parliament quickly to establish a special court to try those involved in the killing of demonstrators.
"The Iraqi government or the Presidency of the Republic is required to prepare a draft law and send it to Parliament quickly to establish a special court to try those involved in the murders of protesters to send positive messages to the demonstrators and to put an end to it," said a member of the commission.
