[rtl]Basra / NINA / - The General Company for Ports of Iraq confirmed that it maintains the depths of its berths and navigation channels through continuous drilling operations through its fleet of specialized rigs.
The General Director of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, Dr. Farhan Al-Fartousi, said in a statement to the company, "The port fleet of rigs is working to improve the depths to reach the design depth of 12.5, which is the required limit for ships and large oil tankers with high submersions to enter the port berths, indicating that the rig Karbala is working on drilling (3000) cubic meters and it is within its load, while the two rigs Dhi Qar and Kufa are digging (6000) cubic meters per load during their work in digging river No. (1) Umm Qasr the northern berths.
The Director of the Iraqi Offshore Drilling Department, Captain Diaa Hashem Ahmed, added that the company’s management directed a maintenance procedure during the period prior to the suspended rigs, which resulted in the return of (8) rigs to work at their normal capacity, as drilling operations during the month of August and September of this year reached more than ( 1,300,000) cubic meters, an increase of doubling from the previous months, and this resulted in a safe entry for ships and oil tankers, especially those with high drafts./End
