McGurk: We are not going anywhere and we are committed to supporting and training the Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga

White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk affirmed that his country is committed to supporting and training the Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga, noting that his country's forces will remain in the Middle East and will not go "anywhere."
This came against the backdrop of McGurk's participation in the "Manama Dialogue 17" forum, held in Bahrain.
"We are committed to supporting and training the Iraqi forces and the Peshmerga," McGurk said in a press statement.
The White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa indicated that the United States has a long-term partnership with the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, pointing to his affirmation during the forum of "his country's support for the Peshmerga."
During his participation in the Manama Forum, McGurk referred to the issue of the United States' withdrawal from the Middle East, stressing that "the United States will not go anywhere," adding that "the region is very important and unstable and is closely linked to American interests."
McGurk stated that what happened in Afghanistan is something special, and the withdrawal of US forces from the country provides the United States with more time, attention and resources to focus on its vital and important interests in the Middle East.
In his speech, McGurk touched on the Syrian issue, denying the possibility of the return of international openness to Syria in light of the continuation of the current regime.
McGurk also said that "Syria will not return to the incubator of the Arab League," adding: "I do not see any real normalization with the Assad regime."
