    A senior Iranian official said, that Iran is cooperating with the various Iraqi parties to agree on an alternative to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki to form a new government in Baghdad, but there was a "lack of suitable candidates." He said the Iranian official told "Reuters" condition of anonymity "We have reached the conclusion that al-Maliki is no longer able to maintain the unity of Iraq." The Iranian official added that "Sistani supports our vision now on al-Maliki." The official noted that "the Iranian ambassador to Baghdad, held consultations with political factions and some potential candidates regarding this matter, but acknowledged that finding an alternative to the owners is difficult." He continued, saying, "There is not many candidates can be to have the ability to preserve the unity of Iraq."
