On Saturday, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Hoshyar Zebari, attacked the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, over a judicial decision.
Zebari said in a Facebook post, which was followed by "Mawazine News", that the decision of the President of the Republic of Iraq to issue a special pardon for a drug dealer convicted by judicial orders clearly shows to everyone that the president needs a certificate of good conduct and behavior from our independent judiciary.
And the Presidency of the Republic issued, earlier today, Saturday, a clarification regarding the priorities of issuing Republican Decree No. (2) of 2022 regarding the pardon of the son of the former governor of Najaf, Louay Al-Yasiri, accused of drug trafficking.
And the presidency stated in a clarification that Mawazine News received a copy of it, that "social networking sites circulated the Republican Decree No. (2) issued on 01/10/2022, which pardoned the convicted convict (Jawad Louay Jawad), and for clarification, we note that the Republican Decree Issued on the basis of the recommendation received by the Presidency of the Republic in accordance with the letter of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers No. (S/2/3/106/42/61) on 1/5/2022, whereby the Presidency of the Republic issues pardon decrees in accordance with specific constitutional and legal contexts based on the provisions of Article (73). First) of the constitution.
And she added, "The President of the Republic directed an urgent audit and investigation to determine the priorities of issuing the decree, and any legal defect resulting from it will be addressed and the results of the investigation will be announced to public opinion as soon as possible. It is a crime that affects the security, stability and safety of society.” Ended 29/R77
