The Kurdistan Democratic Party nominates Hoshyar Zebari for the post of President of the Republic
The source told Shafaq News Agency, on condition of anonymity, that the Kurdistan Democratic Party will nominate the leader of the party, Hoshyar Zebari, for the post of President of the Republic.
He added that Zebari will travel tomorrow from Erbil to Baghdad to present his candidacy papers to the Iraqi parliament.
Since the overthrow of the former regime in Iraq in 2003, the position of President of the Republic has been held by the Kurds, but the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has occupied the position over the previous sessions.
And sources in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan had told Shafak News Agency, that the party would nominate the current president, Barham Salih, to occupy his position for a second term.
Meanwhile, the Kurdish judge Rizgar Muhammad Amin told Shafaq News that he will run for the position, calling on the Kurdish political forces to vote for him in the dome of the Iraqi Parliament.
The Iraqi Council of Representatives had opened the door for nomination on Monday for the position of President of the Republic, with one of the candidates being elected within a maximum period of February 8.
