The Association for Defending Freedom of the Press in Iraq held the second consultative session to discuss the proposed amendments to the draft law on the Media and Communications Commission, in the presence of a group of deputies and their representatives, the Iraqi media network, journalists and legal experts.
The representative of the Emtedad Movement, Dr. Muhammad Nouri, pledged to adopt the Emtada and the New Generation Alliance, the amendments that affect the situation of the press and journalists in the country, and to participate in legal discussions within the parliamentary committees on laws, in order to satisfy the stakeholders of these laws.
The session concluded with a number of recommendations, most notably reconsidering a number of legal articles amended by the association, sending them to the independent parliamentary blocs, and identifying cases of legal violations of the Media and Communications Commission to be included in the report of the Association for the Defense of Press Freedom issued in the year 2021, which includes the issuance of 128 closing decisions, in order to Include punitive texts for committing such violations. And work on reviving the Media and Publication Court by enacting a law for it in the House of Representatives, and considering the legal overlap between three closely related laws (Communication and Informatics - Ministry of Communications - Media and Communications Commission), all of which were read first in the last parliamentary session.
