Earth News/ The independent deputy, Basem Khashan, described today, Saturday, that the parliament's response to the call of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, not to hold its sessions is a constitutional violation.
Khashan told Earth News, "The parliament, according to the constitution, has many tasks set by the constitution, and the parliament by not meeting and not convening during this period fails to perform its tasks specified by the constitution, and this is a grave constitutional violation."
He added that "what is related to the presidential election session, the parliament's response to al-Sadr's call not to meet or to give a deadline of 40 days to the framework or the other party to form a government. This is also interference from a foreign party in the work of the parliament."
Khashan stressed that "the parliament's response to this invitation is another constitutional violation. Parliament must meet and hold its sessions in order to discuss issues that concern the country and perform other oversight tasks except for the election of the President of the Republic."
It is noteworthy that the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, gave the political forces 40 days to form a government after the failure of the last session of the Parliament to achieve a quorum to elect the President of the Republic.
