The Federal Integrity Commission announced, on Thursday, the seizure of "cases of fraud" in a number of Basra governorate departments, indicating that these cases included "transfer of land ownership and tax fraud."
The Commission's Investigation Department said, in a statement received by Mawazine News, that "the Basra Investigation Directorate was able to detect fraud in a property owned by the Ministry of Finance," explaining that "the municipality of Abi Al-Khasib transferred the ownership of (600) dunams of a property belonging to the Ministry of Finance." Its area is (228,830) dunums, although it cannot be moved legally.
The department added that "the property is indicated by previous allocations to the Ministries of Interior and Agriculture, as Law No. (80) of 1970 stipulates that it is not possible to transfer the property located within the basic design of the municipalities, if it contains previous allocations, except by a judicial decision."
In a second operation, the department revealed “the control of fraud in the Basra Tax Department by changing the number of students registered in private schools,” pointing out that “the owners of a number of private schools coordinated with some tax officials to register a number of students less than the real number installed in The Directorate of Education in (20) private schools, to evade paying the tax fees imposed on the number of registered students.
