The Kurdistan Region Presidency announced, on Wednesday, that its meeting with the political parties in the presence of the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jeanine Plasschaert, came out with two recommendations during its meeting in Erbil Governorate.
A statement by the Presidency, which Mawazine News received a copy of, stated that "under the supervision of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and in the presence of the representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jenin Plasschaert, a meeting of the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region was held today, Wednesday (August 10, 2022), with the Kurdish political parties to discuss about the upcoming elections in the Kurdistan region.
The statement added, "At the beginning of the meeting, President Nechirvan Barzani thanked Plaschaert and the political parties for accepting the invitation of the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region, and expressed his hope that the political parties would reach an understanding on setting the date for holding the elections and solving the problems, stressing the importance of the elections for the Kurdistan Region, pointing out that" Delaying the elections harms the reputation and prestige of the Kurdistan region.”
For her part, Plasschaert delivered a speech on the importance of the parties reaching an understanding on the issue of elections and setting the date for holding them, and expressed the full support of the United Nations for the success of the process, and stressed the need to reach a result as soon as possible, because there is no Lots of time available."
The statement continued, "The Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, Mustafa Sayed Qadir, presented the report of the Kurdistan Region Presidency Committee, which is charged with following up the issue of the elections, and the political parties presented their views and views."
He pointed out that "the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region thanked it for its efforts to bring the political parties together, and considered the continuation of the meetings and talks a positive matter."
