The start of the meeting of the two main parties in the Kurdistan Region to discuss the parliamentary elections

Shafaq News/ The meeting of the two election institutions of the two main parties in the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, started today, Wednesday, to discuss the activation of the Independent High Commission for Elections and Referendum in the region.
Shafaq News agency reporter said that the meeting revolves around four main points, one of which is the distribution of electoral districts, the other is the semi-open electoral list, the third is the distribution of electoral seats for the components in the Kurdistan Region, and the fourth is the distribution of votes based on the voter lists approved by the Federal Election Commission.
He added that the meeting took place at the headquarters of the political office of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in the city of Erbil.
The electoral institution of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party were scheduled to meet last week, but the meeting was postponed twice due to the illness of a member of the PUK delegation.
The two parties had held a meeting at the end of last February, confirming in a joint communiqué at the end that they had reached an understanding to hold the elections this year, and that they agreed to hold other meetings to complete the final formula for the form of the elections after overcoming some remaining contentious points in the way of agreement.
The legal department official in the elections institution of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Hawar Muhammad, announced last Friday, in a press statement, that the delegations of the two parties will visit other Kurdish parties to discuss the seats of the components and develop a mechanism to amend the election law.
