Today, Sunday, the United Nations Population Fund in Iraq revealed a strategy to eradicate 50 percent of poverty in the year 2030. The
senior advisor of the United Nations Population Fund in Iraq, Mahdi Al-Alaq, said: "17 sustainable development goals related to addressing and eliminating poverty have been identified less than 50 percent in the year 2030," stressing that "Iraq has a strategy that is being updated by the Ministry of Planning, and it is hoped that it will be launched after months to implement it in the coming years."
He pointed out that "the development goals last for a period of 15 years, starting in 2015 and ending in 2030, but the vision was launched in late years," noting that "there is an ambition to reach specific goals in the year 2030."
He added, "Achieving the desired goals is based on a realistic extrapolation of matters," noting that "the poverty rate will decrease by no less than 50 percent by the year 2030, which is an ambitious goal that must be worked on and strategies should be formulated that lead to equity for the poor groups in order to move from this level to better level.”
Al-Alaq pointed out that "the majority of the goals are aimed at developing the population," noting that "there are 232 indicators that should be provided to determine the country's status in sustainable development."
He stressed that "the Central Statistical Organization has a good database and a plan to follow up on sustainable development, and endeavors to reach the desired goals," pointing out that "Iraq in 2019 presented a national document called Iraq's commitments towards the Nairobi Summit on Population and Development, and it was attended by thousands of participants from all countries the scientist".
He continued, "Iraq made about 19 commitments, the majority of which are related to population and development issues, the issue of gender, reproductive health, deaths, women's work, and the disparity between males and females."
