Shafaq News/ The former Director General of Southern Electricity Distribution, Muhammad Al-Halfi, saw on Wednesday that stopping electric power thefts in Iraq for four years is sufficient to solve the energy, water, schools and other crises.

Al-Halfi explained, in a post on Facebook, seen by Shafaq News Agency, that "when calculating the amount of electric energy stolen annually from the Ministry of Electricity under the title (wastes), and according to the latest report issued by the Ministry of Electricity in 2019, we find that it amounts to 70 million megawatt-hours per year, and by converting it into kilowatt-hours and multiplying it by 108 dinars, which is the amount spent by the state and the ministry to produce each kilowatt-hour, the total amount of stolen energy annually is about 7.5 trillion Iraqi dinars, or more than 5 billion dollars annually.
He added, "If this waste is stopped for only two years, the Ministry of Electricity will have 10 billion dollars, which is sufficient to establish Siemens power plants with a capacity of 20,000 megawatts, similar to those established in Egypt, and thus there will be an opportunity to achieve complete local stability and sufficiency of electrical energy and completely dispensing." For all the energy imported from Iran, Turkey and the rest of the neighboring countries, as well as the energy purchased from investment, at a double price, the ministry will really be able to export the surplus and Iraq will be the regional energy hub in the region.
And he continued: "But if we stop wasting the amount of stolen electric energy for a third year, which is $ 5 billion, then it is sufficient to establish seawater desalination plants in the Faw region, such as those established in Egypt and the UAE to produce more than 6 million cubic meters per day, which is sufficient to solve the problem of water scarcity." in Basra and all of Iraq.
And the government official added, by saying, "But if we stop wasting the amount of stolen electric energy for another (fourth) year, we will be able to establish 500 model schools with international specifications that accommodate a million students, similar to those established in Saudi Arabia, and thus we will have ended the electricity, water and schools crises in only 4 years." ".
Yesterday, Tuesday, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani, revealed that the Council of Ministers approved the request of the Minister of Electricity (financial and administrative powers), while indicating that the minister promised the Council that the summer of 2023 would be different, and that part of the powers granted to the minister are energy projects to generate 3,500 megawatts within two years, and the state treasury does not cost a dollar of fuel.
