    On Saturday, Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Salman directed that the first portion of the food basket be prepared for those covered by the social welfare network.  
    The ministry said in a statement, "The Minister of Commerce, Atheer Daoud Salman, inspected the food stores in Karkh, as well as visiting a number of laboratories and bakeries in Baghdad. Preparing the items of the food basket for the first meal of the current year, and following up on preparing for the release of additional foodstuffs for those covered by the social welfare network. 
    During his tour of the warehouses, the minister stressed "the importance of speeding up the preparation of the items of the basket for the first share, and the readiness of the processing centers to launch the share of those covered by social care, which enjoys government support because it affects the strength of the Iraqi citizen and his basic needs of foodstuffs, noting that continuing to prepare the items of ration and following up the implementation of the plan and mechanisms of processing with scheduling Timings and unifying the pieces with the flour material and delivering it to those who deserve it within the supply system and in all the governorates of Iraq will contribute to limiting the rise in food prices. 
    He pointed out that "the audit and control operations of the commercial control teams will continue to follow up the processing operations, follow up the prices of materials in the local market, and hold the violators accountable in light of the current circumstance that speculators and monopolists exploit to raise prices." 
    The statement pointed out that the minister "also visited a number of bakeries and ovens to see the mechanisms of their work and within the controls of the General Company for Grain Processing, the support provided by the ministry, as well as listening to the problems and obstacles that hinder their work and their needs."
