Today, Tuesday, an informed political source revealed the failure of American mediation to end the dispute between the two Kurdish parties.
The source, who declined to be named, said in an interview that "the mediation of Brett McGurk, US President Joe Biden's envoy, failed to achieve its endeavors and end the tension between the two parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union."
He added, "The tension continues, due to the lack of agreement on holding elections for the Kurdistan Parliament, and also the matter has come to the leaders of the Patriotic Union hinting at the secession of Sulaymaniyah, or handing over the revenues to the federal government and linking salaries with Baghdad directly."
The opposition Kurdish parties, in addition to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, require “cleaning” the records of the Kurdistan Elections Commission, in addition to dissolving it and electing a new one, before running for the Kurdistan Parliament elections.
