    Baghdad today - Kurdistan
A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Burhan Al-Sheikh, confirmed today, Sunday, that the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, requested mediation from the Prime Minister of the Federal Government, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, to resolve the differences between the two Kurdish parties.
The sheikh told (Baghdad Today) that "Barzani, during his recent visit to Baghdad, asked for mediation from the federal government to resolve the differences between the two parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union."
Al-Sheikh added, "The Patriotic Union welcomes dialogue and mediation from any side, led by the Iraqi government, and we were and still are with dialogue to end problems and differences within the Kurdish house."
The information talks about the escalation of differences between the head of the regional government, Masrour Barzani, and his deputy, Qubad Talabani, as he understood that it was a personal dispute and Barzani was trying to marginalize Talabani's role in running the government.
And some press sources reported that the deputy head of the regional government, Qubad Talabani, refrained from participating without an official notification, and that Barzani asked the Patriotic Union to provide an alternative to Talabani.
According to the information available up to this point, the ministers of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan in the regional government have unofficially and announced so far reduced their representation in the government in protest against the developments and that their representation will remain within the framework of "citizen service".
A Reuters report revealed the existence of serious problems between the Kurdish parties and the "ruling families" in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, which warns of the danger of the "collapse of the marriage of convenience" that exists between them.
In its report, the agency referred to "a dispute that has been going on for a long time between the dominant Barzani and Talabani clans, regarding power and resources in a region rich in oil and gas."
And she indicated that "power-sharing governments have been keen to a large extent to hide the mistrust between the two sides since they fought a civil war in the nineties of the last century."
Diplomats and analysts told Reuters that "tension has surfaced with the emergence of a desire for revenge since the assassination in the city of Erbil in a rare event, adding that the repercussions of that operation put the unstable alliance in one of its harshest tests since the war."
The "Reuters" report also made it clear that these differences constitute a source of concern for Western countries, especially the United States, which had supported the two parties in confronting ISIS militarily, while Washington is concerned about the expansion of Iran's influence, which has long relations with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which has intensified. Its missile attacks on opponents in the Kurdistan Region during the past weeks.
The report quoted a US official as saying that Washington is deeply concerned about the recent tensions between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party.
The US official also said, "What we're trying to explain to our partners here is that we don't want unity for the sake of unity, but rather we need you to be able to cooperate with each other on some confidential issues that are important to us and are also in your interest."
