The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers announced, on Saturday, the start of work with electronic payment devices (POS), at the beginning of next June.
A spokesman for the Secretariat, Haider Majeed, told the official news agency, “The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, through the Department of Cabinet Affairs and the concerned committees, is following up on the implementation of the decisions issued by the Council of Ministers, especially work at points of sale via electronic payment (POS), as there is a special section in the Department of The affairs of the Council of Ministers and committees follow up on the implementation of these decisions, as well as there are timetables that are set for the implementation of the decision.
Majid pointed out, "The government media team in the prime minister held a meeting with the Central Bank of Iraq and the Ministry of Finance, and there is also communication with the Association of Iraqi Banks on the need to develop a tight media plan to demonstrate the importance of these devices and the ease of their use."
He added, "The electronic payment devices will facilitate all cash transactions for citizens in official state institutions, private sector institutions, shops, markets, gas stations, hotels and medical clinics."
He continued, "The media campaign will start soon to educate the public about the benefits of these devices, which are scheduled to start operating in early June of this year." Ended 29/N33
