Samarra Medicines: Next year will witness a reduction in medicine prices

Samarra Pharmaceutical Company announced, yesterday, Saturday, that the reduction of customs duties included private sector factories, while it set the date for the start of reducing drug prices.
The general manager of the company, Abd al-Rahman Abbas al-Samarrai, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The government medical sector and investment in it is exempt from taxes and customs tariffs," pointing out that "the reduction in customs duties came in favor of private sector factories, and this step is positive in terms of benefit." Private factories, provided they are invested for the benefit of the citizen.
He added, "Reducing fees is one of the main points of integration with regard to the localization of the pharmaceutical industry in Iraq, and it must be invested and exploited in favor of this approach," noting that "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani's interest in these basic points must be activated and employed positively to provide service."
He pointed out that "the Prime Minister's meeting with the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and the Association of Iraqi Banks included important points for the advancement of the pharmaceutical industry through assistance and attention to factories and the private sector," stressing "the need to study those points that were raised in the meeting, an extensive study and not to neglect them as they lead to a positive return." And on reducing drug prices in Iraq, Al-Samarrai stressed that "importing a new production line needs six months to be manufactured by the manufacturers," noting that "the arrival and installation of the production line will also need six months, and thus we will need a full year to achieve results that lead to a reduction in drug prices."
