Today, Friday, a member of the House of Representatives revealed that 70 ambassadors have been retired, while he talked about the mechanism for their appointment.
The representative of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Majid Shankali, said, “The nature of the post-2003 political system imposed that the process of nominating ambassadors be 50% in favor of the political blocs,” pointing out that “most of the appointments of ambassadors from 2003 until the previous government session took place according to options those blocks.”
He added, "The quotas allocated to political blocs from diplomatic positions are usually granted to the leaders of those blocs, and some of them are from the first line."

Regarding the control of some personalities and families over positions within the embassies of Iraq, Shankali stressed that "the matter causes negative repercussions and repercussions on the diplomatic reality of Iraq, as the external file of Iraq cannot be limited to a number of blocs and families."
And he noted that “there is a problem related to the present time, through the existence of a real shortage of ambassadors, as 70 ambassadors were referred to retirement,” pointing out that “30 ambassadors will be nominated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the political blocs will nominate 40 ambassadors, according to consensus.” agreed upon among the components within the ministry.
And the Kurdish representative called for “the new nominations for ambassadors, especially those that come from the political blocs, to be according to standards and specifications that serve the diplomatic work of Iraq.”
