The Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee called on the government to invest in the decision of the International Arbitration Court in Paris to obtain Iraq's water rights, and pointed out that it restored Iraq's eligibility to control its oil exports.
As an energy expert expected, a delegation from the Ministry of Oil would visit Turkey soon to agree on new mechanisms to resume exporting Iraqi crude.
And the government announced that it had won a legal case in the arbitral tribunal of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris in the case of exporting oil from the Kurdistan region via Turkey. Committee member Ali Al-Mashkoor told Al-Sabah: The decision of the International Arbitration Court did justice to Iraq by giving it the right to control its exports through oil transiting Turkey. And controlling him and knowing who he goes to after the agreements on the part of the Kurdistan region contradicted that, especially since Turkey has expressed its willingness to abide by this decision.
He added that the decision did not do justice to Iraq on the issue of compensation, which may end up with 3 billion dollars, after it was 26 billion dollars, realizing that we are not about to demand compensation as much as putting points on the letters, and going the matter in the right direction for all our provinces. Al-Mashkoor indicated that Iraq should take advantage of this matter. With regard to Turkey's commitment to water releases, this depends on the intelligence of the negotiator, after the Iraqi government has become armed with an international decision that it can maneuver to obtain quantities of water in a way that does not cause harm to the Turkish side, and to control the economic file between the two countries.
For his part, the expert in the field of energy, Dr. Furat Al-Moussawi, told Al-Sabah: The history of the case brought by Iraq against Turkey in the International Court of Arbitration dates back to about nine years, as Baghdad accused Ankara of violating the pipeline crossing agreement signed in 1973 by allowing the passage of Crude oil exports from the Kurdistan region without the approval of Baghdad. He added that the conflict between Baghdad and Erbil began in 2014 when the regional government linked its oil fields to the Turkish border crossing in Fishkhabour, and benefited from the pipeline between Iraq and Turkey, which previously transported crude from oil fields. Kirkuk to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, where the port of Ceyhan exported more than one million barrels per day in January, which equals 1 percent of global supplies, according to “Bloomberg” data, as Baghdad sends about 75,000 barrels per day from it, while the regional government sends about 450,000 barrels. Daily.He added that since the last oil tanker was loaded last Friday, no other ships reported transporting crude oil from the Kurdistan region, and Turkey has stopped receiving oil through the Kurdistan pipeline. He stressed that stopping crude oil exports through the Ceyhan pipeline to Turkey will have harmful economic dimensions. , as Turkey will need to obtain more crude from Iran and Russia to compensate for the loss of Kurdistan's oil. Al-Musawi expected that a delegation from the Ministry of Oil would visit Turkey soon to meet with energy officials to agree on new mechanisms to resume the export of Iraqi crude oil. The oil and gas law to end all legal issues related to this file in accordance with the constitution, in a way that benefits both parties economically while guaranteeing the rights of all oil-producing governorates and the people, which will provide a state of economic and political stability locally, regionally and globally and will be reflected in the stability of the global energy market and security.
