    Baghdad Today - Follow-up
The movement of goods exchange and trade between Iraq and Syria is weak, according to a Syrian official.
Despite the passage of more than two months since the implementation of the decision of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani to open the Iraqi border crossings to allow the entry of Syrian trucks loaded with goods to the Iraqi governorates, and to cancel transportation at the borders, the movement of exports to Iraq did not improve, contrary to expectations.
A member of the Committee for Traders and Exporters of Vegetables and Fruits in Damascus, Muhammad Al-Akkad, told the Syrian newspaper Al-Watan that: “The decision was implemented at a time when the movement of exports was weak, as a result of the lack of materials intended for export, and limited it to only two materials such as tomatoes (tomatoes) and oranges, with the end of the season of producing winter vegetables and fruits approaching.” Therefore, the movement of exports to Iraq was weak during the current period.
He added, "After implementing the decision and canceling the transfer on the Iraqi border, the wages and fees that are paid for each truck or refrigerator decreased by between 20 and 25 percent, pointing out that these wages cannot be accurately determined, as they differ according to the load of each refrigerator or truck."
Akkad explained, "The number of refrigerators that enter Iraq daily during the current period does not exceed 5 refrigerators," and is expected to "improve during the summer season, with the beginning of next June."
And the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Syrian Association for Shipping and National Supply, Muhammad Riyad al-Sairafi, confirmed in a previous statement to the same newspaper, that "after allowing the entry of Syrian trucks into Iraq, it is likely that wages and fees will decrease by nearly 50 percent."
And he stated, "The fees and wages that are paid for each truck with a transfer range between 6 and 7 thousand dollars, and this is accurately estimated based on the load of the truck, and it is expected that the number of trucks entering Iraqi territory will increase daily after starting to allow entry without a transfer by 100 percent." .
