Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani stressed today, Saturday, the need to follow up on the work of mobile phone companies and to pay the dues they owe, according to the law, to the state treasury.
The media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement, a copy of which was received by Mawazine News, that "Today, Saturday, Al-Sudani chaired a meeting that included the chairman and the board of commissioners of the Media and Communications Authority."
The statement added, "The meeting dealt with the issue of the fourth license to serve mobile networks, which will contribute to the development of the telecommunications sector and the level of services provided to citizens."
Al-Sudani pointed out, "The importance of concerted efforts by the Media and Communications Authority and the Ministry of Communications, which recently contracted with a consulting body, to proceed with the fourth license project, through the National Telecommunications Company, in implementation of what was stated in the ministerial curriculum."
Al-Sudani stressed, according to the statement, "the need to follow up on the work of mobile phone companies, and to pay the dues they owe, according to the law, to the state treasury, in addition to the importance of monitoring the service they provide and their compatibility with the service standards specified by law." During the meeting, Al-Sudani explained that "issues related to public money or state resources should not be subject to political pressures or influences," pointing to the importance of improving the telecommunications sector because of its economic benefits and important revenues for the state and the citizen, by maximizing resources and increasing job opportunities.
Al-Sudani reaffirmed, "The government supports media freedom and guarantees it for all media institutions, and at the same time, media work must be regulated and controlled in accordance with the law and the constitution," directing the Media and Communications Authority to interact with citizens' complaints about services, and respond to them through quick solutions to problems.
