The "Breaking the Silence" project sponsored and implemented by UNESCO in Iraq has entered its second phase concerned with ending impunity, following its first phase concerned with strengthening government accountability and judicial procedures to protect journalists. The project, in which several Iraqi official bodies participate, aims to protect journalists and their access to justice, and work to build capacities and enhance confidence between journalists and the law enforcement authority, in addition to coordinating the relationship between the media, government officials, security forces, and the judicial system in the country.
