    Economy News - Baghdad

The Iraq Green Observatory announced that the country's resort to using solar energy to provide electric energy will fill the shortage in electricity and provide job opportunities for the unemployed, indicating that Iraq wastes the sun's rays just as it wastes the gas associated with combustion.
The Observatory said in a press statement, "The country needs 27,000 megawatts for electricity to be continuous during a full day," adding, "It can be provided through solar energy, especially since there are 300 sunny days during the year."
Green Iraq explained that "one solar panel" 100 centimeters by 215 centimeters "gives 1.4-1.8 amps per hour, at a rate of 400-700 watts / hour, and there are panels that reach 250-300 watts."
Pointing out that "the country wastes the sun's rays just as the gas associated with combustion is wasted, as the intensity of the radiation in Iraq gives 1000 watts per square meter, and this is ideal for solar energy."
And the Observatory indicated that "installing systems in desert and agricultural places will have great repercussions, in addition to providing electricity," adding, "including contributing to combating desertification by installing systems in them and planting trees around them, as well as providing new opportunities for the unemployed."
A study showed that exploiting the roofs of buildings in Baghdad by placing solar cells can provide 30,000 megawatts of electrical energy, which covers the needs of Iraq.
The steps of the Ministry of Electricity to move towards clean energy are still moving slowly and facing obstacles, the most prominent of which are approvals for the allocation of lands on which clean energy sources will be built, which has led to the reluctance of many companies to work in Iraq for fear of future problems.
