    The Ministry of Transport is close to signing the implementation, construction and purchase contract for the suspended railway project in Baghdad, with a consortium of the French (Alstom) and the Korean (Hyundai).
    The spokeswoman for the ministry, Shatha Radhi, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah" seen by "Al-Iqtisad News" that "the suspended train is one of the most important projects that the ministry seeks to activate in order to contribute to solving the traffic jam crisis occurring in the capital in a large way, by adopting advanced mass transportation systems, usually the project, a cultural and aesthetic landmark that will be added to Baghdad.
    And she stated that "the project, which is an integrated transportation system, will provide great services to most areas with a high population density, passing through the outskirts of Baghdad and reaching the vital centers inside the capital," explaining that "the proposed 22-km-long cable network will start from the headquarters of the central railway station in the Al-Alawi area in central Baghdad, up to the furthest point from the Al-Shaab region, and then to the outskirts of the capital's border with Diyala Governorate."
    Rady indicated that "the ministry will be the authority responsible for implementing the project, as it is concerned and competent in the transport and railway sector in the country," noting that "the suspended train is included among the projects and service plans that the ministry has attached great importance to, as it will effectively solve the transportation problem in the capital."
    A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Transport confirmed, in the same context, that "the ministry will conclude an implementation, construction and purchase contract with a consortium of the French (Alstom) railway company, and the Korean (Hyundai) Engineering and Construction Company, as soon as its allocations are launched within the recently approved general budget." It is safe for the train and to develop appropriate solutions for sewage networks, water pipes, electricity cables and communications that stand in the way of its path.
