The Najaf Chamber of Commerce proposed reducing taxes imposed on the private sector when hiring university graduates, with the aim of encouraging employers to absorb them and benefit from their academic expertise.
Hamid Al-Ramahi, a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, said in an interview with Al-Sabah, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Industrial Advisory Council at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University: There is a market that is growing and expanding in this field, which requires qualifying academic studies to provide this sector with graduates who have the right basics to work in it.
He mentioned that there are several sectors that have been developing recently, including the solar energy sector, and what it requires of manufacturing panels for its production, pointing out that the university has the potential to enter this field, if there are opportunities to qualify its staff with the expansion witnessed by Iraq in the solar panel market, then this project will be one of the pioneering projects
successful.
Regarding the discussions that took place in the meeting, Al-Ramahi indicated that the legal mechanism for employment contracts between graduates and employers was put forward, and included clauses that guarantee the rights of both parties, explaining that the participants suggested reducing taxes on the private sector when hiring university graduates, to encourage employers to absorb them and benefit from their academic expertise.
He added that the participants also suggested that graduates be included in qualifying courses in order to increase their competence before employment and put them into the labor market, noting that the meeting discussed in the same context the Bologna track system, which will be applied in engineering colleges during the next academic year, and what it requires of participation in the field of work by building curricula, training and evaluating outputs.
