An official source confirmed, on Sunday, the launch of political negotiations between the leaders of the State Administration Coalition to end the Kirkuk crisis and come out with several recommendations.
The source said in a statement to Al-Maalouma that "individual contacts are being made by close associates of the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, and other personalities, in order to hold an expanded meeting this evening."
He added, "The meeting will be held in Baghdad to raise the issue of the attack on demonstrators in Kirkuk by forces affiliated with the Democratic Party."
He pointed out that "the coalition, which includes most of the political forces participating in the government, will present several solutions and submit them to the government, including leaving the issue of handing over the leadership of joint operations in Kirkuk to the Peshmerga forces."
Yesterday, Saturday, the Kirkuk governorate witnessed large demonstrations refusing to hand over the headquarters of operations to Barzani's party and its military apparatus, which generated a clash between the demonstrators and supporters of the aforementioned party, amid political calls to calm the situation, sit at the dialogue table, and stay away from escalation.
