Shafaq News/ On Monday, the Kurdistan Regional Government described the federal government in Baghdad as practicing a policy of "starvation" against the region, stressing that the amount of half a trillion dinars sent to Erbil is not sufficient.

"The Iraqi government decided to send 500 billion dinars to the region, and this is not enough to pay the salaries of employees," said the official spokesman for the Kurdistan government, Peshwa Hawrami, during a press conference held in Erbil and attended by Shafaq News Agency.

He added, "We see that what the federal government is practicing is a policy of starvation, and the government has not fulfilled its obligations and mixed the citizens' livelihood with political issues."

In turn, the Minister of Finance in the regional government, Awat Janab Nuri, said, "The federal government treated us with the mechanism of actual expenditures and does not treat us as part of Iraq, and the amount you sent is not sufficient to pay salaries."

He pointed out that "the previous visits of the delegation of the regional government to Baghdad did not produce results. We have 320 billion dinars per month in non-oil revenues, and what is sent by the federal government is not enough to pay salaries."

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the region, Omid Sabah, also considered that "one of the main reasons for the dispute is the budget law, as this law was written in a retaliatory manner to avenge the rights of the Kurdistan Region."

He continued, "We said that this law will cause problems, yet we went to Baghdad as a gesture of goodwill, and we also discovered that the second problem is the federal Ministry of Finance's understanding of this law, as according to this law, our entitlement is 16 trillion dinars, but the Ministry of Finance says that the region's entitlement is only 8 trillion." After several marathon visits, this is not enough with the regional government's expenses."

Sabah considered that the federal government treats the region "as a province in terms of duties, but it gives us fewer rights than a province, and the decision of the Federal Government Council of Ministers was unilateral and we were not referred to in taking it."
