Endowments: The holiday law is still under discussion

, member of the Parliamentary Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee, Nihal Al-Shammari, stated that Eid Al-Ghadir can be considered a religious occasion and not an official holiday, stressing that the draft holiday law is still under discussion.
She explained to “Al-Sabah” that the committee noted the presence of religious events whose celebration is limited to some governorates, such as the birth or martyrdom of the imams, peace be upon them, and therefore the decision to suspend them is within the jurisdiction of local governments, while national and national events are within the jurisdiction of the central government, according to the report. That all of this be regulated by law, noting that the committee submitted to the Prime Minister the approval of official holidays, including the Arbaeen holiday of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
Al-Shammari indicated that the draft will be discussed within the committee to agree on its paragraphs, which will then be presented to the Parliament for the first reading.
The Parliamentary Information, Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Committee had revealed that the draft law on official holidays would include about 20 official holidays.
I also mentioned in a previous statement that the provisions of the draft law included that the third of October be a national holiday and the 14th of July a holiday on the occasion of the declaration of the republican regime in Iraq, in addition to religious holidays, such as the first and tenth of the holy month of Muharram, the Prophet’s birthday, and the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Revealing at the same time that there is a proposal to make December 25 a holiday on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ, peace be upon him.
Al-Shammari stated at the conclusion of her speech that the committee proposed that the name of the law be “The Law of Official Holidays and Memorials,” such as the celebration of Teacher’s Day or the Shaabani Uprising, which will not be an official holiday.
