This year witnessed the most violent earthquakes that have occurred on the Earth over many years. The Turkish earthquake was the most violent in the region, as its aftershocks reached Syria and caused the death of dozens and the collapse of several buildings, while the Moroccan earthquake was the strongest in the past 123 years, leaving hundreds behind. In conjunction with the recent earthquake, Dutch scientist and forecaster Frank Hoogrebetz took advantage of the situation by issuing a number of statements regarding Iraq being exposed to an earthquake no less severe than what Morocco was exposed to. Al-Jabri continued, “The General Authority is following the reports, and some of the Iraqi governorates on the border strip with Iran fall within the seismic line, such as the areas of Khanaqin, Kalar, and Amara, and these areas are often exposed to aftershocks as a result of earthquakes in Iran.”
Geological expert Ahmed Askar said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “The Dutchman’s statements are nothing more than fame on Facebook.” Askar pointed out that “predicting the occurrence of earthquakes requires a set of conditions, the first of which is determining the areas of seismic moment, its intensity and degree, in addition to determining the time of the earthquake.” "With the time and date, and providing people with the location of the earthquake."
