{Umniah: Al-Furat News} The Dutch government intends to send about 120 soldiers and 3 helicopters to Iraq.
The Dutch government stated today, Friday, that it will transfer to Iraq, within the framework of NATO missions, about 120 soldiers and 3 Technok helicopters to Iraq.
Last July, the Dutch government decided to send about 145 soldiers to Iraq, scheduled to arrive on January 1, 2023.
Established in 2018, the NATO mission in Iraq advises Iraqi defense and security officials in the Ministry of Defense, the Office of the National Security Advisor, and the National Operations Center of the Prime Minister's Office.
The mission announced last August that it would undertake additional tasks in the fields of “advice and capacity building,” explaining that its scope of work would include “advisory and capacity-building activities in support of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and the Federal Police Command,” based on “a request from the Iraqi authorities and a decision from the North Atlantic Council.” On August 17, 2023.”
The main mission of the forces that will be sent to Iraq is to secure food and equipment for the soldiers, and they will also use helicopters for their transportation.
The Netherlands is a member of the international coalition founded in 2014 to confront ISIS. It contributed by sending soldiers and military advisors to assist the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi security forces in their confrontation with the organization.
The Netherlands also plays an active role in the process of organizing the Peshmerga forces.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani invited NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, during their meeting in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, to visit Baghdad “based on his desire,” indicating that the government is in the process of “reviewing the form of the relationship with the international coalition.”
