    Baghdad today - Baghdad
There are many advantages and the expected economic feasibility of the development path, which the current government headed by Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani expresses great optimism in moving towards its completion, and while the economic benefits of it are many, the internal benefits stand out apart from the economic returns coming from abroad, as an important element represented by alleviating the population density crisis in specific cities. and its centres, building new urban cities around the route.
Representative Baqir Al-Saadi said today, Sunday (October 22, 2023), in an interview with “Baghdad Today,” that “the path of the development road from Basra all the way to Baghdad and from there to Nineveh was chosen very carefully and according to a comprehensive vision that takes into account avoiding complex geography and passing through areas.” Open and highly secured.
He added, "The paths of the Development Road, which is the Iraqi Silk Road par excellence, are nominated to be new modern cities. There are 13 sites awaiting the approval of the Sudanese government, most of which are in the housing sector. They will directly support the Development Road project."
He pointed out that "new cities will inevitably lead to the movement of tens of thousands of families from current city centers, which means reducing their density for the first time."
He pointed out that "the development path will attract large international investments because the vision is not limited to the housing dimension, but rather the industrial dimension and the building of large economic facilities because it will proceed with production on the development path directly towards Europe and Southeast Asia."
The Sudanese government launched the development road at the end of last May, during a conference held in Baghdad with the participation of representatives of 10 neighboring and regional countries, to announce the road, which consists of a land road for wheels as well as railways along a length of about 1,200 kilometers from the port of Al-Faw to the Fish Khabour border with Turkey .
The land road and railway will extend in two different paths from the south and meet north of Karbala and then continue their path side by side towards Turkey, according to the Ministry of Transport, which indicated that the government wants this land line and railway to turn into a road and a vital artery for the economy, and there are plans for industrial cities and housing cities surrounding the road. Which will revitalize 10 governorates, and will witness the crossing of thousands of trucks coming from 25 countries. Work on it is supposed to begin in 2024 and end in 2028, that is, within 4 years .
Experts believe that the most important problem and way to solve the housing crisis, as well as the traffic jam, is the failure to develop new cities, and the governments’ attempts to distribute plots of land to citizens without providing them with infrastructure services, which leads to leaving them as desert lands and subject to buying and selling only without building them to add new housing units that reduce the deficit. Amounting to more than 3 million housing units .
