Today, Tuesday, the US State Department revealed the details of the call made by Anthony Blinken with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani yesterday evening, stressing that the attacks on American forces were the focus of the call.
"The Secretary of State welcomed the Iraqi government's condemnation of the recent attacks and threats against American military personnel and coalition forces in Iraq," she said.
Minister Blinken called on the Sudanese Prime Minister to “prosecute those responsible for the attacks and fulfill Iraq’s obligations to ensure security in these sites,” according to the Russian “Novosti” agency.
Yesterday evening, Monday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received a phone call from the American Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, and Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, according to a statement by the Iraqi government.
The statement stated that what took place in the call between Al-Sudani and Blinken dealt with developments in events in the Gaza Strip, and stressed the importance of coordination to ensure continuous and safe access to food, water, and medical care supplies.
Al-Sudani also renewed the commitment of the two countries to continue strengthening their partnership, in accordance with the principles contained in the strategic framework agreement concluded between Iraq and the United States.
In the other call, Al-Sudani and Austin discussed the presence of military advisors and crews of the international coalition to combat terrorism in Iraq, and affirmed Iraq’s commitment to protecting military advisors and diplomatic missions operating in the country.
Yesterday, Monday, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, announced a government intention to track down elements that carried out attacks on military bases where foreign forces are present.
The Ain al-Asad military bases in Anbar, western Iraq, and Harir in the Kurdistan Region were subjected to several drone attacks in recent days.
On October 10, the Secretary-General of the Hezbollah Brigades movement in Iraq, Abu Hussein Al-Hamidawi, threatened to target American bases in Iraq if the United States intervened in the Gaza war.
