    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Saturday (October 28, 2023), a human rights center identified the causes of school violence in Iraq, and while it pointed out the lack of a clear educational policy, it stressed that the House of Representatives should have a role in addressing violence in schools.
The head of the Iraq Center for Human Rights, Ali Al-Abadi, said in an interview with “Baghdad Al-Youm” that “the lack of real oversight and controls that adopt the policies of the Ministry of Education has led to an exacerbation of school violence, especially in the cities of the south, noting that the violence is in two directions: teaching and students’ families, because there is no A clear methodology.”
He added, "Violence is not limited to students, but rather it is directed towards teaching staff due to the lack of specific controls," pointing out that the attack on students and the growth of violence against them comes despite the existence of a policy that prevents this in the educational sector, but what we see is different, which requires the House of Representatives to have a role in Reality changed through the activation of laws, in addition to the fact that UNICEF had more than one notice in an effort to preserve the educational process and reduce school violence.”
Al-Abadi pointed out, “The lack of a clear educational policy in terms of its application in reality, especially in the curricula, leads to an exacerbation of school violence and thus the reality of education and its repercussions on the lives of students.”
He continued, “The reality imposes a legitimate question, which is why is the Ministry’s policy applied in private sector schools and neglected in the government sector even though the latter is more deserving of implementation and application? Pointing out that applying the Ministry’s curricula and policies in reducing school violence reflects positively on teaching staff and students and creates positive results.” .
