The head of the Road Maintenance and Land Transport Department in the Iranian province of Ilam, bordering Iraq, Zahid al-Din Chesma, announced today, Wednesday, that more than 8 million and 500 million passengers visit the Mehran border crossing between Iran and Iraq annually.[/size]
[size=45]Cheshmeh said, in a press conference held today, that approximately three million and 500 thousand people had visited the Mehran border crossing throughout this year’s Arbaeen pilgrimage season, which lasted 20 days.[/size]
[size=45]He added that the frequency of travelers through this border crossing ranges between 30,000 to 100,000 people per day.[/size]
[size=45]Jashmeh also referred to the projects implemented by the Road Maintenance Department in Ilam Governorate, which is inhabited by a majority of Faili Kurds, and said that the length of the land roads whose asphalt cover was restored and renewed in Ilam Governorate during the current Iranian year (which began last March 21) reached 470 kilometers, and that 90 percent of the contracting in this field is carried out by local contracting companies in Ilam Governorate.[/size]
