    Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, upon receiving the head of the independent team for the strategic review of the United Nations mission in Iraq, on Wednesday, affirmed Iraq’s ability to protect and solve its internal and external problems and contribute to resolving regional issues.
    The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a statement received by Al-Maalomah, that “Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani received the head of the independent team for the strategic review of the United Nations mission in Iraq, Volker Perthes, and his accompanying delegation. At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Sudani welcomed the UN team, expressing the necessary readiness.” To facilitate and assist the team in carrying out its tasks, recalling the United Nations workers who sacrificed themselves in various parts of the world, and also praising the courageous and moral stance expressed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations regarding the events in Gaza, which is a matter of respect and appreciation.”
    The Prime Minister stated that “the Iraqi government, as the executive body, is best able to determine the need for the level and type of international assistance,” noting the Iraqi government’s desire to redefine the priorities and areas of work of the UNAMI mission in line with the need to support and address sectors and crises, such as water scarcity and climate change, In addition to what concerns economic and financial reform, improving services, combating corruption, applying human rights principles, and others,” pointing out that “Iraq has today become effective and capable of solving its internal and external problems, and is playing its role in supporting stability and peace in the region, and resolving regional issues.”
    For his part, Perthes stressed that “the team held consultations in New York with United Nations entities and members of the Security Council, along with other concerned member states of the United Nations and independent experts, and they confirmed that there has been a significant change in Iraq from what it was in 2003, especially in the field of democracy.” and civil peace, stressing that he followed the government’s efforts and the economic projects it launched, especially the development road project, which will have a significant impact on diversifying the economy and achieving stability. He stated that the review team will conduct a field visit in Iraq and will meet with representatives of the federal government and local governments, as well as United Nations teams. working in Iraq. Ended 25 n
