On Sunday, the Presidency of the Iraqi Council of Representatives expressed “deep” concern about the failure to send the results of the special vote for the provincial council elections electronically, warning against “tampering” with the results.
The Presidency said in a statement, “We, as the Presidency of the House of Representatives, followed with concern the technical problems that occurred during the special voting process in the provincial council elections, specifically the failure to send the results through the medium transporting large numbers of ballot boxes, and transferring them to the counting and sorting centers without doing the manual counting.”
She indicated “its keenness for the Independent High Electoral Commission to perform its duties and constitutional duty in preserving voters’ votes and the rights of candidates, ensuring accuracy and not repeating errors in public voting, especially as the number of centers and stations is many times greater than what was opened by private voting.”
The Presidency of Parliament stressed “giving full guarantees from the Commission not to repeat technical errors and declaring the safety of the equipment used, especially since the electoral law stipulated that the Commission contract with independent testing companies, carry out simulations to verify all procedures, and provide all necessary guarantees to preserve the boxes sent to prevent Manipulating the results.”
The Presidency of the Council expressed its “deep concern and calls on the Commission to avoid errors and verify the devices used in the stations before conducting the general voting process for the elections.”
