A specialist reveals a decrease in imported quantities of petroleum derivatives by 60%

Economic affairs researcher Haider Al-Sheikh revealed today, Saturday (December 23, 2023), a decrease in imported quantities of petroleum derivatives by 60%, compared to last year.
Al-Sheikh told "Baghdad Today" that "the imported quantities of petroleum derivatives (gas oil, gasoline, white oil) that Iraq imports annually decreased this year by 60% compared to 2022."
He stated that "the imported quantities of petroleum derivatives for the month of November 2023 amounted to two billion and 226 million dollars, and the imported quantities of petroleum derivatives for the year 2022 amounted to 5 billion and 288 million dollars."
He added, "The financial cost of imported gasoline in the current year amounted to 1,811 million tons, which decreased by 50% compared to 2022, which amounted to 3,690 million tons."
The expert in economic affairs continued, “Iraq imports approximately 12 million liters of gasoline daily from several countries, including Iran, the Emirates, and China, due to the inability of Iraqi refineries to fill the shortage, as Iraq consumes approximately 30 million liters daily, given that the number of cars inside Iraq has reached To approximately 8 million cars.
Iraq witnessed the opening of the Karbala refinery this year, in addition to the opening of a number of new refining units in the Baiji refinery as well as the southern refineries, which led to an increase in the produced quantities of petroleum derivatives.
