The Tourism Authority in the Kurdistan Region revealed its plan for the current year, to attract large numbers of tourists from inside and outside the country, and it is hoped that it will reach 10 million tourists, while it seeks to attract investors to advance the tourism sector by establishing resorts and tourist and entertainment places.
The Director of Tourism Marketing at the Authority, Sirwan Tawfiq, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” followed by “Al-Iqtisad News” that the Authority has developed a plan for the current year that is commensurate with expectations that the number of tourists from inside and outside the country will reach 10 million tourists, noting the support and support of the government in the Kurdistan region. The Authority, until the number of tourists within the established plan reaches 30 million tourists in 2030.
He pointed out that the number of tourists last year reached approximately 8 million tourists, 80 percent of whom were Arab tourists from within the country and Arab countries and 20 percent were foreigners, stressing The regional government continues to support the sector by attracting investors to build tourism investment projects, including resorts, tourist and entertainment places.
Tawfiq pointed out that the Authority’s staff announced its readiness to start winter tourism in the middle of this month, by holding various events and activities, the most important of which is the White Festival in the mountainous areas of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Dohuk, pointing out the diversity of activities there, including ice skating, mountain climbing, hot air ballooning, car racing, boating adventures, and camping. Through tourism groups and others, winter tourism continues until the Newroz holidays and the beginning of the spring season.
He added that among the other events and activities carried out by the Authority during the current month are its participation in international exhibitions in Spain and Iran, as well as holding a tourism conference with Saudi Arabia in order to support joint tourism and tourism marketing between the two countries, benefit from international experiences and exchange information regarding the prosperity of the tourism sector in a way.
