    Baghdad today - Baghdad
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, announced today, Sunday (January 28, 2024), that his government intends to raise the level of its diplomatic representation in a number of countries that he described as “friendly and important.”
This came in a speech he delivered during the launch of the third annual conference of representatives of the Kurdistan Regional Government, held in the city of Erbil, which continues for five days.
Masrour Barzani said in his speech, “What is pleasing is that the Kurdistan Region’s foreign and international relations in the past years have developed and grown a lot,” adding that “the number of consuls and diplomatic missions in the Kurdistan Region is increasing and expanding.”
He added, "Our future program includes increasing the number of representations of the Kurdistan Regional Government abroad, and in several friendly and important countries that have consuls in the region, with the aim of further consolidating friendship, and economic, cultural, scientific and academic relations."
He also pointed out, “From the international standpoint, the Kurdistan Regional Government has taken very good steps in this field through visits by high-level delegations of countries to the Kurdistan Region, or the region’s participation in international forums and conferences.”
He stressed, "The Kurdistan Region, as a constitutional and legal entity in Iraq, has always represented security and stability in Iraq and the region, and desires to achieve the best relations with neighboring countries and the international community in general. Our goal is to develop and strengthen foreign and international relations on the basis of common interests and mutual respect."
Barzani continued by saying: The Kurdistan Regional Government has proven to be an important and effective partner in the international community, and in several areas it has been the focus of attention of countries around the world, especially since the region is a stable region and a center for peaceful coexistence for the various components, stressing that “the region has never been a subject of threat or danger to any person.” We have always extended the hand of friendship to all countries of the region and the international community in general.”
He stressed the need to "take into account and protect Kurdistan's common interests with the countries of the region and the world, and the sovereignty of the Kurdistan region and Iraq must be respected and not violated."
