Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, suggested on Thursday the possibility of holding legislative elections in the region during the month of May.[/size]
[size=45]Sheikh Mustafa said during a statement to reporters that it is within the powers of the President of the Kurdistan Region to set a day for holding the Kurdistan Parliament elections, adding that “the date for holding them will be set in May of this year by His Excellency the President of the Region in the event that nothing happens.”[/size]
[size=45]Regarding solutions to the disputes and outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil, the Vice President of the Kurdistan Region stated that “there are many and ongoing attempts by the delegation of the Kurdistan Regional Government to resolve all the outstanding problems between the two parties,” adding: But until now, no effective solutions have been received for these problems.[/size]
[size=45]Regarding the general situation in Iraq after the recent events, Sheikh Mustafa stressed that the Iraqi situation is part of the general situation in the region, stressing that Iraq and the Kurdistan Region do not want war.[/size]
[size=45]Last August, the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, issued a regional decree stipulating that elections for the Kurdistan Parliament be held in its sixth session on February 25, 2024.[/size]
[size=45]However, the Federal Election Commission requested that the date be postponed for technical reasons.[/size]
