Turkish media reported that Erdogan spoke to a group of journalists on board the plane during his return from a visit to Egypt, saying that the main parties in the development road project are Turkey, the Emirates and Iraq, indicating that the project will become a new “Silk Road” for the region and will serve regional peace.

He pointed out that he discussed the project during his visit a few days ago to the UAE, expressing his hope that the project would be completed in the optimal manner.

He stated that UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed proposed setting a period of 60 days, completing planning studies, and starting work on the project, adding, “Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Oraloglu continues his meetings with his counterparts, and we hope that these studies and plan will move to implementation.”

He stressed that the "development road", which will enable the Gulf region and surrounding countries to access the European market via Turkey, is a profitable project for all parties.

In part of his speech about the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s support for the PKK in Sulaymaniyah, Erdogan said: “If the matter is related to our survival and national security, we will completely close the doors of tolerance and do what is necessary.”
