The First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Agriculture, Water and Marshlands Committee, Zozan Koger, announced today, Monday, that the volume of the increase achieved in the strategic water reserve amounted to about 10 billion cubic metres.
Koger said, in a statement to the official newspaper, followed by Mawazine News, that the large amounts of rain and snow witnessed by most regions of Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region, have contributed to feeding the rivers well, which has led to an increase in the strategic water storage in the dams.
She explained that this increase is considered good and will be sufficient to meet the country’s needs during the coming summer, referring to the visit of the Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, to the committee, where the government’s benefit from flood waves and torrents was discussed, explaining that the committee presented proposals to implement projects during the rainy seasons, as well as determining Proposed locations and financial allocation to achieve this.
The meeting also touched on the issue of lifting violations on rivers with the aim of improving water supply and ensuring its equitable distribution.
Koger stressed that the Ministry of Water Resources needs real government support to implement projects that benefit the public in the field of water.
