    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Saturday (March 30, 2024), Professor of International Relations at the University of Baghdad, Alaa Mustafa, commented on the possibility of resolving important files during the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to Washington in the coming days.
     Visit files
Mustafa told "Baghdad Today", "The Sudanese's upcoming visit to the United States of America will not address files of importance and depth, especially since US President Joe Biden is not the same as last year."
He added, "If the visit had taken place in the first days of the formation of the Sudanese government, it would have touched upon resolving important files, but we are living in the last days of Badin's term, and he is busy with the electoral campaign, and we do not believe that the meetings will be lengthy between the two parties in the White House."

The professor of international relations pointed out that “there is an urgency from the coordination framework, especially from the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, to discuss the American withdrawal schedule and the Sudanese’s return to Baghdad, carrying with him an explicit and announced scheduling agreement that guarantees the stability of the situation, as well as lifting some restrictions on savings.” Iraq to the US Federal Reserve, in order to revive the economic situation so that there is development in services and others.”
He added, "It is possible for the Sudanese to return tangible results at the level of the economic file. As for the security file and the withdrawal schedule, the situation is very difficult, given that Badin is in the last days of his term, and resolving such files requires the presence of a stable American administration."
     ISIS risks
Regarding the security situation and talk about the return of ISIS, the professor of international relations said, “Talk about the return of ISIS and its continued danger in Iraq is a card that is being exaggerated in the media,” noting that “ISIS currently in Iraq are sleeper cells, the land is in control, and there are divisions.” Military forces deployed in all areas where ISIS was moving, and any violation that might occur can be dealt with.”
He stressed that "the violations do not amount to restricting the movement and functioning of the government or disrupting the security situation."
On (March 24, 2024), the US Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski, said, “ISIS still poses a threat in Iraq .”
Romanovsky added in a statement to Reuters, followed by "Baghdad Today", that "the work of the US-led military coalition with Iraq to completely defeat ISIS is not over yet."
     6 important files
Meanwhile, on March 22, 2024, the Prime Minister’s Media Office announced the details of Sudanese’s visit to the American capital, Washington, on April 15 .
He pointed out that "Al-Sudani and Biden will discuss the horizon of the future relationship in the post-international coalition to fight ISIS, and the best ways to move to a comprehensive partnership between Iraq and the United States of America, in light of the strategic framework agreement between the two countries in the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational and security fields."
For its part, the White House announced earlier that Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani will be a guest of the White House and US President Joe Biden to discuss 6 files .
A statement by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, translated by “Baghdad Today,” said, “The leaders will reaffirm their commitment to the Strategic Framework Agreement and will work to deepen their shared vision for a secure, sovereign, and prosperous Iraq fully integrated into the broader region .  ”
The statement added, "Biden and Al-Sudani will discuss a range of issues during the visit, including our shared commitment to the permanent defeat of ISIS and the evolution of the military mission nearly ten years after the formation of the successful global coalition to defeat ISIS. They will also discuss ongoing Iraqi financial reforms to promote economic development and progress toward independence." Iraq in the field of energy and its modernization.
