The Parliamentary Immigration and Displacement Committee called on the government to implement a clear government program to return the displaced to their governorates, with the presence of approximately 800 thousand to one million displaced Iraqis.
Committee member Sherif Suleiman explained in an interview with Al-Sabah, followed by Mawazine News, that “the Ministry of Immigration and successive governments were unable to resolve the issue of the displaced in an optimal manner, and what was required of them was not implemented correctly,” noting that “Parliament is awaiting the implementation of the decisions.” Which was issued by the Council of Ministers in a real and serious manner to resolve the humanitarian and national issue that afflicts 800,000 to a million Iraqi people living inside
and outside the camps.”
Suleiman added, "There have been steps, but they are not sufficient, and we hope that there will be a real start to work on the return of the displaced, according to the government program and the political document between the members of the state coalition. We believe that there is some confusion in the file, which is not
clear."
He explained that "the overwhelming majority of the displaced are still in the Dohuk and Mosul camps, while there is no reference to the Sinjar Agreement, which is the road map for resolving the issue of the displaced from the Yazidi component," pointing out that "the situation has not normalized, and the region is still afflicted, so we believe that... The local government provides the necessities for a decent life and resolves the conflict on Mount Sinjar.”
A member of the Parliamentary Immigration Committee continued, "There are no accurate statistics, as there is a constant movement between returning to the camp and vice versa."
