Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani announced the possibility of linking the Chinese “Belt” and “Silk Road” with the Iraqi “Development Road” project to form one project. He pointed to “the associated gas project that was inaugurated yesterday, Saturday, in Maysan Governorate, and which is being implemented by PetroGina, as one of the strategic projects between the two countries, as it falls within the government’s priorities in stopping the waste represented by burning gas,” expressing his thanks “for the efforts of all those working in this project.” .
Al-Sudani explained, “Iraq’s interest in developing gas projects, as part of the government’s program to develop the manufacturing and fertilizer industries, which will give the economy added value and provide job opportunities, and that there are sites that will be offered to companies, especially PetroGina,” stressing “the presentation of the integrated energy implementation project.” Which includes oil and associated gas production, processing plants, a power plant and a petrochemical refinery.”
He pointed out that “the Belt and Road project can be linked to the Development Road project to form one project,” which is what the company offered to cooperate in, expressing “Iraq’s readiness to partner with the company in petrochemical projects outside the country, and that the government adopts environmental standards in implementing the projects, as well as Providing an investment environment for operating companies and developing and establishing training centers to develop workers and cooperate in the field of study fellowships.”
Yesterday, Sunday, the Prime Minister also received the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Hilal Companies, Hamid Jaafar, and his accompanying delegation.
The meeting witnessed “a review of the progress of work in the projects undertaken by the company in Iraq, especially the company’s project within the fifth round of licensing, in addition to confirming the government’s vision of expanding productive partnerships with regional and international companies and economic groups, in cooperation with the Iraqi private sector, within the government’s platform for economic reform.” “.
Al-Sudani stressed that “the government has provided a safe investment environment, and financial and banking facilities that are attractive to experienced companies, which opens horizons for continuous cooperation, reflects positively on the local economy, creates job opportunities, and maximizes Iraq’s resources from its oil wealth, in light of the goal of transferring at least 40%, From Iraq’s oil exports to refining derivatives and products, as well as gas investment.”
On the other hand, Al-Sudani chaired a special meeting for the rehabilitation project of the steel factory in Basra Governorate, affiliated with the General Iron and Steel Company.
The Prime Minister was briefed on the progress of the work to rehabilitate and operate the project, which is one of the lagging projects, and listened to a comprehensive presentation on the procedures performed by the authorities in charge of implementing the project, which was scheduled to be opened two months ago, but some obstacles prevented this opening, which necessitated holding a special meeting. with it.
Al-Sudani stressed “the necessity of removing all obstacles and technical problems that hinder the completion of the project, and completing the installation of smelting equipment, systems and production lines.”
He stressed “the importance of working with more than one meal and 24 hours a day, and that the implementing agencies must adhere to the agreed upon time limits, and adhere to what he directed during his visit to the company last March, during which he opened the rolling mill.”
When he received a delegation from the people of Muthanna Governorate, including the commander of the Ansar al-Marja’iya Brigade in the Popular Mobilization Forces, Mr. Hamid al-Yasiri, the Prime Minister listened to a detailed explanation from the delegation about the service and social reality and the most important projects for the governorate, and their observations about the performance of the local government, the manifestations of corruption, quotas, and the implementation of projects at high costs. In addition to the great need for other projects that address the service problems that the governorate suffers from.
Al-Sudani said: Supporting the political process, stability and security is the responsibility of everyone, whether they are political forces through their performance or citizens through their continued participation in it and recording observations on it, indicating that the peaceful transfer of power is the basic factor in political construction, and that the right to peaceful demonstration is guaranteed to everyone.
He stressed that criticizing the phenomenon of corruption and confronting it must be within the constitutional and legal contexts, and that restoring the citizen’s confidence in the political process is our most important challenge, because the legitimacy of any political system is through its relationship with its people, stressing his knowledge of the service reality of Muthanna in all its details; It is one of the poorest governorates, and the bulk of the governorate’s projects are supervised by the government because they are among the ministries’ projects.
He explained that the governorate councils came through elections run by the people of the governorate, and that everyone must respect the choices of citizens, stressing not to remain silent and be complaisant about any corruption in public funds, but through legal contexts, and that the doors of the government are open to citizens and will not give up its role in monitoring the performance of governors. Pointing out that there are follow-up committees in all projects, and that corruption complaints must be supported by documents, Al-Sudani also confirmed his previous directives to reject quotas and adopt standards of competence and integrity for selecting officials.
He directed the formation of a committee headed by the head of the Integrity Commission and the Financial Supervision Bureau, which would visit the governorate to follow up on reports related to suspicions of corruption and waste of public money, scrutinize them, and refer them to audit. If the defect is proven, an investigation will be conducted, the negligent parties will be identified, and they will be referred to the judiciary. He also directed sending a technical committee headed by the head of the effort team. The engineering team and the follow-up team visited the governorate and diagnosed deficiencies in the implementation of service projects.
