Today, Tuesday, the American magazine "National Interest" called on the United States to focus on weakening Iranian influence inside Iraq, while noting that one of the most ironic and negative strategic consequences of the 2003 invasion of Iraq is the strengthening of the power of Iran, which is a much more powerful opponent of America.

The magazine said, in a report, that “policymakers in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] should not focus on dismantling [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]’s grip, but rather work to weaken its influence, even if American forces withdraw from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].”

She added, "Despite the declared American goals regarding its vision for [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.][You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]'s grip on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has been strengthened" through the militias, indicating that "the conflict in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has become an arena for [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]'s regional agents, including the Iraqi armed factions, which has made [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] "At risk of being drawn into a broader conflict and presenting [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] with options that appear unpopular."

She pointed out that "the Popular Mobilization Forces demonstrated its ability to adapt and overcome weak leadership, internal divisions, electoral defeats, and loss of popular support. It also achieved impressive results for its candidates in the governorate elections in December 2023, expanded its economic capabilities, and diversified its sources of revenues."

The report considered that "Iranian influence lured [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] into regional conflicts, turning it into a proxy battlefield for tensions."

He continued: "The Sudanese government extended [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]'s contract to purchase natural gas from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for another 5 years, a step that will likely not arouse admiration from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]."

He continued: “The sharp deterioration in regional tensions over the war in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] raised more questions about the feasibility of the American military presence that lasted for two decades in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.],” explaining that “the conflict in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and the recent American strikes in [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] were aimed at “It is in the interest of the Iranian-backed forces, because it helped them formulate a discourse that weakens moderate voices.”

The report also stated, “Supporters of withdrawal argue that its costs outweigh the benefits of remaining for training purposes, and warn that it may lead to the disengagement of [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] politically, leading to a decline in the progress made by Iraqi forces since 2014 and making it difficult to confront Iranian influence. They believe that [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] should withdraw its forces or transfer them to Kurdistan, where they are more welcomed, while benefiting from economic power instead.”

He concluded: "Policymakers must acknowledge that [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] faces a clear challenge in managing its closely intertwined relationship with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], which is its main trading partner, the dominant external player in the Iraqi security scene, and has long been engaged in shadow wars with the [url=https://www.alsumaria.tv/entity/45068/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%88%D9%84%D8%A7%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%AA %D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AA%D8%AD%D8%AF%D8%A9 %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D9%85%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A9/ar/]United States[/url] and its regional allies.
